Happy Halloween! Now is the time of year to wear scary nails - something many of us nail polish addicts in the blogging world have been doing all month. I wasn't sure what to do with my nails this Halloween, until I remembered that I've been playing an awful lot of Minecraft lately...and what does Minecraft have? A lot of scary monsters! What better thing to wear on your fingernails on Halloween?
Here's the monsters...spider, zombie, creeper, enderman, and skeleton.
“What wouldn't I give now for a never-changing map of the
ever-constant ineffable? To possess, as it were, an atlas of clouds.” -
David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
As some of my friends may know, I have been basically obsessed with Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell since reading the book a few months ago. It's a book that has literally changed my life - I've read it several times, and it may be my favorite book of all time! When I saw the trailer for the movie, I knew I had to see it. I went to the movie on opening day, yesterday, October 26th, and dolled my nails up in honor of the occasion.
Fall is here! The leaves are changing colors, the weather is getting colder, the sun never comes out...and it's time for some autumnal manicures. Seriously, it's a miracle I have sunlit pictures today. I need to make a lightbox.
Today I'm comparing coppery and brown foils/metallics. I found five in my collection worth comparing. From pinky to thumb, they are: OPI DS Glow, Sally Hansen Magnetic Golden Conduct, Rescue Beauty Lounge Ghost, China Glaze Harvest Moon, and Sonia Kashuk Two Cent. The result is actually a pretty cute fall manicure that almost helps me feel at peace with summer's departure.
Please read on for more close up pictures and thoughts on each polish!
Hey all! First of all, congratulations to Esther (of MrsYunYun.blogspot.com) for winning the Companion Cube nail polish giveaway! I will have other geeky giveaways in the future. Today I have a couple of nail of the days to show you. The first is a very unusual polish called Just Busta Mauve. It's a Nicole by OPI polish - a Target exclusive for Fall 2012 that I picked up while in the states.
It's a Nicole by OPI polish - a Target exclusive for Fall 2012 that I picked up while in the states.
The second manicure is a polish by indy polish creator Hare called Afterglow.
Sonia Kashuk is a gateway polish. When I was first discovering my love for fingernail painting and care, I picked up quite a few of Sonia Kashuk's line. The colors were just edgy enough to be exciting to a newcomer, and the formula and wear were great. They were cheap at less than five dollars, making it easy to stock my collection with staple colors. Even though I have other brands I wear more often, I don't forget that Sonia Kashuk got me started. (The line also boasts a wide selection of high quality makeup brushes. Most of my makeup brushes are Sonia Kashuk.)
Today I'll be reviewing the Sonia Kashuk Fall 2012 Collection.
There are five colors in this collection. They cost $4.79 at Target and target.com. Sadly, these are not yet available in Canada, but I hope that Target will bring Sonia with them in 2013.
Sonia Kashuk's bottles used to have silver caps. I don't know if the change to black caps is permanent, or just a feature of this collection, but I hope they keep the black caps. They're much nicer than the silver, which used to chip, scratch, and dent easily.
Hi everyone! I am back now - I was in the states visiting my family for awhile as I said in my last post, and have been re-adjusting to Canadian life and re-watching Community episodes with my husband for a couple of weeks upon my return. Thanks to all who kept following me and checking my page! I plan to have many more posts in the future! As a reward for your loyalty, I'll be having a small giveaway.
I first made mention of this giveaway about 2 months ago. This giveaway is special to me, as it is a bottle of "Companion Cube" by Nails IT! This polish is obviously awesome, given that it is based upon my favorite videogame (Portal!) that I also named my blog after.
This giveaway is for one brand new, never opened bottle of NailsIT "Companion Cube" and whatever other random goodies I decide to throw into the lucky winner's package. Actual plush "Companion Cube" is not included - I just used it for the pictures.
The contest runs until September 28th! So without further ado - the polish.
Companion Cube is a grey jelly absolutely packed with pale pink hearts, tiny matte glitter squares, and companionship. Should you be required to test, your Companion Cube'd fingernails will most likely never leave you, and you will probably not need to incinerate them in order to proceed (Aperture Science Testing Laboratories do not guarantee fingernail safety when testing.)
As you can see, Companion Cube goes perfectly with an actual Companion Cube. I'm astonished at how well the colors match! The hearts in the bottle are no trouble to fish out, which I love. So many glitters with unique shapes don't have enough in the bottle, which means you need to go fishing with a toothpick. Didn't have that problem here.
Use caution when and if you need to throw this bottle into an Aperture Science Emergency Intelligence Incinerator - be assured it will combust immediately.
This is one coat of Companion Cube over two coats of OPI My Pointe Exactly.
Thanks for looking, everyone! I hope you have a great day and good luck to all who enter the giveaway!
Hi everyone! I know I haven't posted in awhile, but there's a reason for that...my brother got married! I am in the states at the moment visiting my family and celebrating the occasion. Pretty weird to think that we're grown ups now. But anyway, that's where I've been - it's so nice to have access to Ulta and Target again - I really need to do a Sonia Kashuk post soon.
I'm going to review the Zoya Gloss collection today. Please forgive the ragged cuticles - my environment is not ideal for nail painting and care, as most of my stuff is at home in Canada!
So, the collection is Zoya Gloss, and it consists of 3 very sheer jelly polishes:
Katherine - a raisiny, vampy color Frida - a teal blue Paloma - a berry pink
These are my very first Zoya polishes, by the way. So far I am loving the brush - it's bigger than normal brushes, but isn't a ridiculously wide paddle like the SH Insta-Dry brush. It's somewhere in between OPI's pro-wide brush and Essie's annoyingly tiny brush.
Read on for more pictures (including a unique layering idea!) and my thoughts.
In the past, I've done a lot of manicures and a lot of blog posts using a-England polishes. For the 4th of July, I made a watermarble using a-England polishes, but the focus was on the marble, not the polishes I used. I've used a-England under severalRainbowHoneymanicures (with stunning results.) From all of this, it's easy to see that I really love a-England polish - but I don't think I've ever written a blog post dedicated exclusively to them. Today I'm fixing that.
This is my collection of a-England polish (and a stuffed pig.) From left to right, we have Perceval, Iseult, Lady of the Lake, Elaine, Avalon, Order of the Garter, Tristam, Princess Tears, Morgan le Faye, Excalibur, King Arthur, Camelot, and The Shield. (I also own Holy Grail, not pictured.) By the way - I wrote that entire list without once looking at the website or at the backs of the bottles. That should give you an idea of how much I love these polishes.
a-England is created by Adina Bodana - an Italian designer who happens to love everything to do with England and British mythology. Naturally, I'd be all over this even if the colors weren't as fabulous and unique as they are. I've never regretted a single polish I've purchased from Adina and want to own all of the colors someday.
Today I'll show you pictures of three a-England manicures I wore recently! This post is going to be picture heavy, as usual! And as you can see, I'm still trying out different watermarks. Just go with it.
We bring you now to the very last installment of my Rainbow Honey Equestria Collection blog posts! This polish is called The Worst Possible Thing, and it is Rarity's through and through.
Rarity is a very glamorous pony who loves jewels and has a tendancy to over dramatize things.
TWPT is a glitter polish in a clear base. This polish is packed with so many different types of glitter I don't even know how to begin to describe it.
There's color changing hexes, blue and purple flakies, and jewel-like shards of iridescent glitter. To be honest, in the bottle I wasn't sure if I was going to like it that much - I wasn't sure how this was going to capture the essence of my favorite pony. I should have known better than to doubt. It's awesome.
This manicure was perfectly timed - I actually created a Rarity costume which I wore to the Montreal Otakuthon this past weekend! And for my Rarity manicure I wore one coat of The Worst Possible Thing over a-England Avalon. Keep reading for more pictures!
